General Shotgun

This course teaches the student how to effectively and safely utilize a shotgun. Upon completion of this course, the student should be proficient with: 

  • Fundamentals of shooting a shotgun
  • Ammunition selection and management
  • Patterning
  • Zones of fire
  • Understanding the characteristics of buckshot, birdshot, and slugs
  • Indoor and outdoor firing positions
  • Weapon retention (i.e., how to keep your weapon from being taken by an attacker)
  • Close Quarters Conflict
  • Sling use, mounting from a slung position 

Equipment: (Equipment can be provided, upon request in advance) 

  • Eye and ear protection
  • Service type shotgun with carry strap (sling) 

Ammunition:

  • 100 rounds birdshot
  • 25 rounds buckshot
  • 25 rounds slug
